The Data Center Leaders SummitSM - Southeast 2010 was held onThursday, September 23, 2010 at the St. Regis Hotel in Atlanta, Georgia. Guests had the unique opportunity to hear “just released” research on data center trends and IT spend from experts in the industry. With top technology executives attending, the one day program offered the opportunity to collaborate and network.. Titles represented at the Summit included CIO, SVP, VP of Operations, and Head of Data Center Operations. Companies represented included Fortune 1000 from across the southeast.
Kimberley Kennedy, Emmy Award winning journalist and television personality served as the Summit Emcee. Keeping the energy high throughout the day, she related her own unique experiences of the impact of technology changes to the broadcast industry.
Ted Ritter, Senior Research Analyst with Nemertes Research was the morning keynote speaker and received outstanding feedback on his presentation of data center trends and their implications. Including key findings from interviews with over 2500 IT executives in the last six months, the Summit was the first time the research was released to the public. An expert on cloud computing, virtualization, Internet infrastructure, efficient data centers and Green IT, Ted brought to life the complexities in the data center environment.
In the session, “Top of Mind”, survey results from Summit attendees were discussed. Distributed in advance of the Summit, the survey asked the attendees to list their top 3 challenges as they relation to the data center environment and what is driving these challenges. Infrastructure, power and cooling, and hardware requirements made the top of the list.
Business professor Dr. Kevin Kobelsky, with the Hankamer School of Business at Baylor University was the afternoon keynote speaker in the “Insights and Interviews” session. With ten years of data collected from InformationWeek, Kevin presented his latest research findings reflecting the positive correlation between IT spend and increased corporate earnings and stock price.

In the 2nd half of the session, “Insights and Interviews”, Summit host, Mike Reidenbach, Executive Vice President and Worldwide Chief Information Officer of Global Payments took the stage to be interviewed by Dr. Kevin Kobelsky. During the interview segment, Mike provided his feedback on Kevin’s research on what applied or didn’t apply to his company and how a case could be made for increased IT budgets to produce top line results for an organization.

Summit host, Michael Frazee, Vice President, Information & Communications Technology with Lend Lease, led discussions on “Green IT” at his table and shared feedback with the attendees during his debrief.
Nick Pietrocarlo of Royal Caribbean International wrapped up the business sessions of the Summit with his briefing on managing and simplifying your IT infrastructure to produce business results.
